Your device has to be rooted ! Z4root will do this

2. Download Rom Manager From the market to install Clock Work Mod Recovery
3. Make a nandroid backup
This will ensure you that you wont break your phone
(Make sure your sd card is mounted)
After installing Cwm boot your phone into recovery mode
(vol up /send /click power)
Once inside of recovery mode select backup and restore and then select back up.
(Now stay in recovery mode to flash cm7)
4. Time to flash Cm 7 or Cm 6
- Use the trackball to scroll to wipe data/factory reset. .
- Next, go to wipe cache patition.
- Now, go to advanced and Wipe dalvik cache.
- Now, go to mounts and storage, format following
- Boot
- Data
- System cache
Now your ready to flash !
Go to install zip from sd card.
- Choose zip from sd card now choose the Cyanogen mod Rom you downloaded.
- After it flashes go back by pressing the back key and go to install from sd card again then choose zip and install the gapps zip!
- You have flashed Cyanogen mod! Now go back to the main menu and reboot
(Note reboot time should be a long time up to 10min)
5. Concern Notes
To enable MMS for MetroPCS users (not Cricket users), a separate package needs to be flashed. CWM 2.5.1.8 is no longer a requirement to use this fix. It's now compatible with CWM 3.x.x.x. In order to get this working, follow these steps:
- Download the latest version of MetrOFF: MetrOFF-v1.3-MMS-GB-Edify-CM_ASOP-No_Roaming_indicator_Off_signed.zip
- Make sure you've booted into CM7 at least once.
- Reboot into recovery and flash the zip
- Reboot back into CM7 and go to Voice Dialer and say, "Open APNs"
- In the menu that appears, press the dot button for MetroPCS. Make sure the dot button turns green.
